Getting Started

Managing your BoxLock Control environment is possible via the "Account" tab in the bottom left hand corner of your screen, as identified below.

On this page you're able to view and edit the settings for your account, add users, change your profile information, update Organization wide Lightning Codes, view our API documentation and much more!

✨
If you're using the API you'll also have an Access Token and other information in that API tab!

The Users

On the Users tab, get an overview of all the users that have access to the account and their information, as well as the option to edit a user's info or add a new user.

If an administrator needs access to the platform, you will add them as a user. Note: not all individuals interacting with a lock need to be added as a user, most just need their access barcode.

To add a new User, click the "Add User" button.

User roles:

Once you've selected all the correct options for your new user, click "Save".

A welcome email will be sent to the email address specified with a temporary password that will allow them to create a new password and login. These emails expire after 24 hours, so any user who does not login within that time frame will need a new welcome email. For help generating a new password, email help@boxlock.io.

Lightning Codes

Lightning Codes make opening locks using barcodes instantaneous by securely storing limited-use barcodes directly on the device. These codes are refreshed every time the lock connects to the network.

Key features of Lightning Codes:

  • Provides access to locks in areas with low/no network connection
  • Must be a barcode that is valid for a “Specific Number” of uses or less
  • Can be managed at both Organization and Location levels
  • Requires BoxLock 2nd generation hardware with updated firmware

To set up Organization Lightning Codes:

  1. First ensure you have a barcode with a use limit enabled at the location or organization level
  2. Navigate to Settings → Lightning Codes
  3. Select the Barcodes tab and then the Lightning Codes tab
  4. Click the “Add Organization Lightning Code” Button
  5. After adding the code, perform a hard reset on your lock (hold button for 20 seconds) to sync the lightning code to the device

To set up Location Lightning Codes:

  1. First ensure you have a barcode with a use limit enabled at the location or organization level
  2. Navigate to the location where you want to enable lightning codes
  3. Select the Barcodes tab and then the Lightning Codes tab
  4. Click the + button to add a lightning code from either the Organization or location level
  5. After adding the code, perform a hard reset on your lock (hold button for 20 seconds) to sync the lightning code to the device
