In order for a BoxLock device to manage assignments of tools, the location associated with the lock must be linked to an Assignment in Tool Manager. After this is accomplished, tools at this assignment will be returned to this parent assignment when returned, and when a barcode is scanned to open the BoxLock device, a child assignment will be created for any checkouts. This creates a clear audit trail of tool possession. In order to find the assignment ID required for the process, go to the Assignments screen of the Site Manager web application and select the assignment you want to associate with a location in Control.
When you click on the assignment, look at the URL in your browser window. At the end of this URL, following the last “/” character, is a long string of letters and numbers separated by dashes. Copy the entire sequence after the last “/” character. In the example below, you would copy 5bf6d0c4-2432-497d-a96a-8cf1e8e0e61e
Log into BoxLock Control and navigate to the Locations tab. Select a specific location, and then click the Edit button. Paste the value copied in the previous step into the External ID field, and then press the Update Location field at the bottom of the screen.
This location is now linked to an assignment in Tool Connect. Barcodes scanned to open the lock associated with this location will create a child assignment underneath this assignment to track tool checkouts, and when the tools are scanned back in, they will be returned to the parent assignment.
