This page explains terminology which will be used throughout the rest of this documentation.
Tool Connect
Tool Connect is a technology platform created by DeWALT to provide inventory control and auditing for tools.
- The platform provides customers with the following functionality
- Maintaining inventory of tools within a single system of record, including auditing functionality designed to flag missing or improperly assigned tools.
- Assigning tools to job sites or individual employees.
- Viewing diagnostic information on select DeWALT tools, such as battery health.
- Locating Bluetooth-enabled tools in real-time
- End-users interact with the system primarily through the Site Manager web/mobile application.
- Some DeWALT tools are identified as Tool Connect-compatible. These tools have BlueTooth functionality which allows tools to be added quickly from the mobile application.
- Tool Connect also provides an Application Programming Interface to allow partners such as BoxLock to access and modify data.
- BoxLock hardware also acts as a BlueTooth gateway, allowing BoxLock devices to locate nearby tools and report their latest status to Tool Connect. This allows a BoxLock device to be used in place of, or injunction with, DeWALT’s Construction Assets Gateway.
Tools
Tools refer to any asset tracked within the Tool Connect system.
- Tools can be added manually in the Site Manager application, allowing non-BlueTooth tools or tools from other manufacturers to be tracked within Tool Connect.
- The mobile application supports adding DeWALT tools by scanning a QR code that is generally located on the bottom of the tool.
- The mobile application can also scan for nearby BlueTooth enabled tools and add them to the system.
Assignments
Assignments allow for tools to be associated with entities. The term is loosely defined so that it can refer to a person, job site, fleet vehicle, or other concept depending on the use case of the customer.
Organizations
Organizations refer to separate Tool Connect accounts, which each generally represent a company.
People
People refer to other accounts which have been given access to the current account. Users can be invited to join your Tool Connect organization even if they already have their own account or belong to multiple organizations.
